At Life, we promote and practice consumer control. As a consumer, you should have equal access to all services, programs, activities, resources, and facilities in your community. Inclusion and diversity are at the heart of our Center. All people with disabilities contribute to our communities in important ways. We are here to help you realize your independent living goals.
Independent Living Centers provide five core services:
Centers for Independent Living (CIL's) promote the rights of people with disabilities through advocacy. Advocacy can happen on different levels:
- Self-Advocacy- speaking up for oneself as well as knowing/learning about your rights as an individual with a disability and how to protect those rights or gain access to them.
- Systems Change Advocacy- speaking up for change to happen on local, state, or national levels.

I&R is a primary means of providing and promoting consumer empowerment. The more people know the more effective they can be in making decisions and managing their own lives. If we can't provide you with a service we will provide you with information or refer you to an agency or organization that may be able to help you.

Information sharing and similar kinds of contact are provided by other people with disabilities, individually or in a group setting. This is to assist an individual to achieve community and social integration through the sharing of experiences, methods, and approaches to overcoming obstacles and barriers as a person with a disability. Peer counseling and support is a central principle of IL philosophy.
